Speaking Up

A couple of Sundays ago I woke up and felt this sense of urgency...like I was late for school or an event.

I knew that our world was in the middle of shifting...

and I'd just spent the previous day lounging by our friends' pool, sipping cocktails looking out on the ocean.

Honestly, I started tearing myself up.

I looked at my IG page and just thought "who the hell are you?".

Later that day I was texting with my sister and told her I wanted to crawl out of my skin- I wanted to shave my head. She told me that she wanted to get a sleeve tattoo. Later that week my best friend told me that she dyed her hair pink. I felt like I was the only one feeling that uncomfortable in my body until I actually spoke up and shared.

So I started reading.

And watching.

And listening.

And talking to other friends, family, colleagues about everything going on.

There's a couple of things that I want to share specifically about the current state that we're in with Black Lives Matter, social justice, the protests etc.

We ALL have a role to play.

You might feel like your "silence" is insignificant right now, but I would encourage you to ask yourself a deeper question- what is it leading to??

There are people feeling the call to SPEAK UP and STEP INTO the physical frontline of this movement.

There are others who are in the background writing letters + reports, creating art, having hard conversations with friends, family and their colleagues.

What is YOUR zone of genius within the Black Lives Matter movement?

Here's the deal- comparison is GOING to sneak in - what you "should" be doing or saying or how you're feeling. (I know it has for me this past week FOR SURE).

But we cannot stay silent.

It Is time for a major shift and how you contribute to that shift is unique.

If you're feeling uncertain, the best thing to do is to listen to your intuition.

In case you're wondering what my role is right now...

I told one of my best friends yesterday that I felt like I went back to school last week.

Rather than rushing to say something just to say it, I wanted to get my facts straight- I wanted to form my own well-researched opinion and also pour as much support into the BIPOC community to share in the spotlight.

Now I'm ready to take what I've learned from the leaders and speak up.

I'm not sure what that will look like exactly yet.

I'm scared that I'm going to say the wrong thing. But I also know that not saying something is going against my personal values and beliefs.

Bottom Line: We ALL have a role to play in the Black Lives Matter movement. Where is your perfection + comparison showing up? And how can you release it, so that we can create real change?

If you're in the middle of research mode, here are some of the resources that have made the greatest impact on me:

If there is a resource, article, movie etc. that you have learned from, please email and share it with me!

I'm here for you. I'm grateful for you. Let's be a part of the change.
