How Storytelling Can Support Body Image Healing
When I was struggling with food + my body, one of the ways that I felt the most comforted was hearing stories from other women going through similar things.
To be honest- there wasn't a lot out there back then...this was before podcasts were popular and Instagram was just becoming a thing.
So I'd sneak to the nearest library and hide out in whichever section I could find related to memoirs from other girls battling disordered eating.
I'd hold my breath and check out the books sometimes...praying that the librarian wouldn't ask me any questions.
Sometimes, I'd sit down at a table and read most of the stories cover to cover.
Just knowing that someone else was going through this and had actually come out on the other end was enough motivation to keep me putting one foot in front of the other.
And it's why I love sharing my story through podcast interviews....at first I was scared shitless letting everything out so publicly and vulnerably.
But now, I know exactly why I'm sharing this story and who I'm saying it to.
This is for YOU.
To let you know that you are not alone with any negative food and body thoughts. Or feelings of being "broken" or held back from flowing with your life.
And to let you know that there is a way out.
I talked a lot about my personal eating disorder + food freedom journey in an interview that I did with my friend and colleague Amy Natalie on her show The Feminine Frequency Podcast.
I hope that you know that I'm always in your corner.
