3 Tools To Reduce Body Image Spirals

I think you'll agree that it ROYALLY SUCKS when you're having a fabulous day and then BAM- out of nowhere something sets you off into a negative body image spiral.

I've been there. I'm still there some days.

As far as I've come in my own healing journey, I'm not immune from the diet culture that we live in...

Although the paralyzing days around my body are way farther apart, fewer and much less intense these days, they still come up.

But instead of letting diet culture win, I choose to outsmart it where I can through taking care of myself in empowered, nourishing, and compassionate ways.

I want to share 3 practical tools that have helped me and my clients tremendously in reducing body checking & negative body image days altogether.

1. Shut off your FB memories. To prevent possible body image comparison, take two-minutes and go through this process: go to: facebook.com/onthisday, the left-hand side you'll see “notifications”, click “none”, and you're all set!

2. Turn off your self-view in zoom. Hover over your video and click the ellipses button in your video to display the menu, then choose Hide Self View. You'll no longer see the video of yourself, even though others in the meeting can see the video of you.

3. Move clothes that don't feel good. If you're not ready to permanently part with items, take the next step in relocating where you see them every day. "Out of sight, out of mind" as they say. Move pieces to the back of your closet, under your bed or store in another location altogether.

There you have it my dear- I hope these help support you in your own journey.

Reminder to take a deep, compassionate breath.

When days are hard, it's not about avoiding the tough emotions- it's about acknowledging them & working with your body, not against it (physically, mentally, emotionally).
