My Favorite Lunch Tip To Reduce Food Anxiety

A few years ago right after my hubby and I moved to San Diego, I was working in the marketing department for a study abroad company...

Meaning that I was responsible for knocking on doors, cold calling, and "selling" families into the idea of sharing their summer with a teenager from France.

Not the easiest gig.

Especially when June rolled around and there were still more students arriving than beds for them to sleep in.

So picture me running around town, typing up emails, hopping on calls, setting up booths- ANYTHING to make this happen.

My team finally got the hint and called in some backup support from an office over in Europe... Which not only ended up being a lifesaver, BUT it was so much fun getting to make new friends.

So here we all are together, hustling our butts off about 2 weeks before the students arrive.

Lunchtime rolled around and my colleague from Sweden looking at me like I was legitimately crazy for eating at my laptop.

Literally, she was confused that I was working through lunch.

After I stopped blushing, I put my emails on hold, grabbed my salad, and headed outside to sit with everyone.

It was one of the first times in my life where I can actually remember sitting and eating WITHOUT looking at a phone, book or laptop without being at a restaurant.

And everything was fine.

I didn't have to stay in the office until midnight.

I didn't get chewed out by my manager.

And I didn't get pulled down a complacent spiral for the rest of the day.

Taking 15 minutes to get some fresh air, detach from my work, and enjoy my meal reinvigorated me.

Eating without distraction is a habit that isn't perfect in my life, but something that I prioritize today and has helped with everything from anxiety to eating until I was uncomfortably full.

Here’s my tip today:

Step away from your desk to eat your lunch and notice how you feel. Bonus if you can ditch scrolling on your phone too (isn't it really just a portable desk anyway?)
