How I Let Go Of The “Healthy Eater” Identity And Elevated My Well-Being
If you've ever felt stuck in the secret shame cycle of binge eating, I've so been there.
You're in a safe space.
I'll share a personal story that you might be able to relate to on some level…
It starts with a morning about 7 years ago…when I woke up next to a bowl of chickpeas...
It sounds funny now, but this was actually a drunken binge.
Damn, I felt shamefully different. Most people grab a pizza or make Mac & Cheese after a night of boozing…
But my identity was wrapped up in clean eating- The only way that I could trick myself into thinking that my relationship with food wasn't as bad as it was.
I'd been the healthy eater in almost every social group for as long as I could remember, I didn't know who I was without the label.
And If I wasn't eating healthy, I'd have to admit I had a problem.
Honestly, waking up with this bowl of chickpeas wouldn't surprise many people back then.
I stayed in the restrict/binge cycle for years, hiding behind green smoothies & post-cocktail kale salads until I had a rock bottom moment & decided that something needed to change.
I was no longer willing to lie to myself. I couldn't hide the truth behind the label of clean eating…
I had a problem. And it was slowly destroying everything that I loved- my body, myself, my relationships, my physical, mental, and emotional energy. I was sacrificing my life so that I could fit into a safe little label.
But I was finally DONE with living in fear & anxiety around which ingredients would do what to my body.
Healing my relationship with food hasn't betrayed my health like I worried it might. It's elevated it…
Food is a way to ENHANCE life- to connect, soothe, energize, celebrate, and satisfy.
My body is my home- a vehicle for love + adventure in my life. It no longer determines my worth in this world.
My relationships have blossomed because I'm fully present- from close friends to people on the street.
I'm fully expressed in my career- running a company that helps other incredible people achieve this type of healing for themselves.
My hobbies are wide + deep- From soaking up new cities to getting lost in good fiction books.
Look, I know you have big, important, incredible goals that have nothing to do with food or your body.
And if you feel like your relationship with food is keeping you stuck in your own box, that's a gut feeling that I want you to pay attention to.
