Why You Should Rotate Your Greens
Are you rotating your leafy greens?
Don’t get me wrong- if you’re tossing spinach in your smoothie everyday or always opting for the kale salad at lunch, you’re doing great. Your body + brain is still getting a ton of nutritional benefits and supporting your daily detox.
So why it’s important to switch things up?
If we’re having the same thing every day, our bodies tend to become accustomed to this and more reluctant to absorb all of the nutrients as best as they can.
This can apply to any type of food though...Crazy fact- one of the most common ways allergies are formed to certain foods is by eating too much of one thing. This can create an intolerance in our body especially with foods that are a bit more inflammatory (ex. peanuts, dairy, wheat). Not to freak you out- just to create awareness...
I’m a creature of habit with my meals so always have to be conscious of this myself ;)
But back to the greens…
Tip 1. Start Small- are you even eating them to begin with? If the only thing you’re willing to try is a handful of spinach in your smoothie or a wedge salad at lunch let’s start there.
Tip 2. If you’re ready to kick things up, try alternating your smoothie with some very mild tasting alternatives (my favorites are romaine and fresh dandelion).
Tip 3. Once you’ve got that down, try switching it up with some bolder flavors (kale, parsley, collards). These pair well with certain fruits like berries + banana and pack a BIG nutritional punch.
Hang in there girl- all of this nutrition stuff can be overwhelming and feel super frustrating...especially if you just don’t like the things. Even just having the info in your back pocket is the perfect place to start.
